I gave this a3 star rating because it really is just like the books "I used to read." Sort of. While Marie explains she started this book a decade ago, it is very much like the old Harlequin Romances that I loved in the 80's and 90's. I have to admit I liked the plot but hated the whole "ton" part of the book. Although the sex was explicit - because that is where we are NOW - for the books I used to read, the plot was always the same - rich man disguises himself, finds himself a virgin, falls madly in love -- and through tradition is a gentleman until he marries her and claims her virginity in a very prudish way. Given this story was started almost 10 years ago, I felt that for the type of series this is, it is an appropriate rating. Did I love it? NO! It is too mixed up with contemporary and historical writings. It is always amazing how the "poor virgin who never had sex" is able to perform as a modern day woman with tons of experience. Somehow, the story line is all confused between historical and contemporary. Would I recommend this? Sort of. I love a lot of Marie Force's other books/series and was very curious to see what she would try and do with this type of book. So, my curiousity is satisfied, but I have absolutely no interest in pursuing a second book in this series.

I wasn’t sure about this book when I heard the words “historical romance”, but I love the author so I decided to give it a try. I had to google a few words to figure out their meaning, but I was happy to see phrases being used that made sense for the era.

I was so mad at Derek for not telling Catherine that he was really the duke when she gave him ample opportunities to do so. After learning the truth, I could sympathize with Catherine. I could understand why she didn’t want to call him by his name and could see a change in his demeanor as Derek than how he was as Jack.
The only thing I wish was included was the conversation when he actually told her the truth. The chapter ends with him saying he was going to tell her the truth and the next starts with her reacting to the news. I know why he misled Catherine, but I thought it would be fun to hear him explain it to her. I can just picture him stumbling over his words and even second guessing his own choices.
I haven't read a historical romance in a long time, but when Marie Force said she had written one I knew I had to read it.
This book has your typical Dukes, Earls, Ladies and Lords, but it also has something a little different; a Duke and Duchess who are interested in all the modern conveniences of the time.
This book was fun to read, the characters were delightful and true to the time period. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
If your not sure about historical romance or you haven't read it in awhile give this book a chance. You'll like it.
I generally love Marie’s books, but this book is more in line with her erotica novels and less about regency romance. Marie is an exceptional author, but I don’t believe this is the genre for her.
It is no secret I am a huge Marie Force fan. If she has written it I have read it. That being said when any author ventures into a genre they haven’t attempted before one could be a little wary to follow them onto this unknown path. I’m so glad I trusted my instincts and her talent because she hit it out of the park. Duchess by Deception was everything I hoped it would be and more. In typical Marie Force fashion she kept me entertained the entire way through. This is another five star read from a five star author. Get this book you won’t be sorry!!
I have loved each and every Marie Force novel, and I have read all of them. Since Marie had not written a historical romance novel before I wasn’t sure what to expect. But, I was totally captivated by the story of Derek, a duke, and Catherine. It had all of those elements that love in a novel- romance, humor, and suspense. Duchess by Deception now falls into the category of my most loved books that I will reread. As I read I was reminded of some of my favorite historical romance novels from Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas, and Julia Quinn because there is humor, suspense as well as romance. I was reading it quickly and forced myself to slow down because I knew that I would be sad when I finished the book. Whether or not you are a fan of historical romance novels , I highly recommend Duchess by Deception.
I loved this book which was my first historical.Marie did a fantastic job as always.I couldn't put it down read it in only a few days I was sad when it was over and can't wait for the next in this series.I highly recommend this book you'll fall in love with this couple,He decieves her but she couldn't help but fall in love with him her savior.This is definitely five stars wish there were more!!!!!!!
Outstanding first Historical Romance. Ms. Force writes in her usual style that engages you with her characters from the first page. She in the same ranking with my favorite historical writers such as Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn,  and Tessa Dare. I can't wait for more in this series although it can stand alone. Amazing and the intimacy is HOT.
