Having just read a book about the Victorians, this book caught my eye. It begins with the contrast between the reigns of Victoria and Edward the VII. The presentation is interesting in both text and pictures. The author continues to paint with a broad brush, considering all the factors of the early twentieth century that contributes to the "age". The book does not end with the death of Edward but continues into the reign of George V as the Edwardian spirit continues. The span of time considered is between 1901 and World War I (1914). There are broad subheadings with anecdotal material which may or may not be of interest to the reader. I skimmed much of the book, focusing on the characters of the monarchs (which was my true interest). I hesitated to give the book the highest rating as I felt the material was somewhat tangential and not as focused as I would have liked.
